keep awake
😴 This web app keeps your screen awake ⏰
Only works while this tab stays open and visible — not minimized, and not switched away to another tab.
Why keep your screen awake?
Most devices dim and lock the screen after a short idle timeout to save power. That's great most of the time, but it gets in the way whenever you need the display to stay on without touching your keyboard or mouse. This tool prevents your screen from sleeping for as long as this tab stays open — no install, no extension, just a browser tab.
Tip: open this page in its own browser window rather than a tab you'll switch away from, and keep that window visible somewhere on screen — a second monitor or a corner of your display works well. It'll keep running even while another app has your focus, as long as this window isn't minimized or covered by switching to a different tab in the same window.
- Presentations & screen sharing — keep the display on while you present from another app or window, without the screen dimming mid-slide.
- Video calls — stay awake through long stretches of listening rather than typing, with the call running in its own app or window.
- Downloads, builds, or long-running tasks — keep the progress visible on a second monitor until it's done.
- Dashboards & kiosk displays — keep a status board or menu on screen indefinitely.
These all work best with this page open in its own visible window — on a second monitor, or beside the app you're using.

FAQ
Why does it stop when I switch tabs?
Browsers automatically release the wake lock whenever a tab is hidden or minimized — this app has no way to override that. As soon as you switch back to this tab, it reactivates the wake lock for you, no need to click the button again.
Does it still work if I switch to another app?
Yes, as long as this page stays open in its own window that stays visible on screen (not minimized). Switching focus to a different app or window doesn't hide this tab, so the wake lock keeps running. It only stops if you switch to a different tab inside the same browser window or minimize the window.
Does it work if my laptop lid is closed or the display is off?
No. A wake lock only prevents the screen from sleeping while it's already on and visible — it can't stop the system from suspending for other reasons like a closed lid.
Why isn't the button working?
Your browser may not support the Screen Wake Lock API, or may have denied the request (for example due to low battery). Try a recent version of Chrome, Edge, or Safari.
